harvest vacation and . . .

We have had the most gorgeous beginning of fall that I can remember in a long time - 80 degree temps, gentle breezes - what I would call 'California weather' (being the native Californian that I am!) - and L. O. V. I. N. G. it!

Heather agreed to drive from up north to help me photograph about 20 YW (young women) in this golden field just below the temple for their Christmas present this year! Just to make it extra special, she brought her softbox to lighten up their faces and make the photos 'pop'! I can't show the actual photos because they're a surprise for the holidays but you can see the field and chair below. (Psssssst, they came out fabulous - just look at that light!)

School has been out for harvest since Monday. The photos, below, were taken over the weekend as potato harvest is in full swing - grain harvest is over as you can see in the photo with the chair - combine cut the grain and left stubble.

. . . come back full (below) - then head directly to the potato cellar where they sort the potatoes and stash them away into storage until the potato prices are just right - then, they are sold!

School let out Monday for potato harvest and it's been raining since Tuesday. School kids in our area are dismissed from school for one week (2 weeks in the 'old days'!) so they can work in the harvest and earn money. I miss Bob working in the spuds as I would get many photos when I would take his lunch to him - however, I know he is not missing it at all! Drivers Ed is a much better option and he doesn't have to blow potato dust out of his nose and mouth when he gets home!

As I sit writing this, it's 10 a.m. and 37 degrees - the rain outside has turned to snow flakes - not sticking yet but none-the-less snow flakes! The fireplace is going in the other room and the office heater is going full-blast at my feet - zikes it's cold - from California-weather to snow in only a few days! That's Idaho for you!

Since I started writing this post, the weather graphic changed dramatically and the storm has gotten bigger - just too lazy to go get it!!!
