rethinking spring break! GIVING

Being a native-Californian, spring comes in April. Being a Idaho-transplant, spring does not come in April - not by a long-shot! I awoke this morning to school-closures coming over the radio - they reported it dropped another 6" (and much more in other areas) of snow during the night with winds that cause havoc for school buses and students waiting for said bus! SO, we really need to 'rethink' this Spring Break business school administrators! The winds are blowing like crazy and the snow that a Good-Samaritan-neighbor just cleared from our driveway will soon be undone! If you want to see Bob's blood pressure rise, just look out the window and say the words, "Spring Break"! He is definitely feeling slighted by not being able to golf on his days off. Ohhhhhh!

The day before Easter (Saturday) I looked out the window and saw black, black smoke across the valley. We live on a hillside that overlooks the our valley home. That looked very suspicious especially when it was snowing and the valley was snow-covered. No farmers were out this time of year burning weeds on ditch banks. I went and got "Big Bertha" - my Nikon 500 mm so I could zoooooom in and see what I could see! Bob figured it was in the "S" curves on the highway west of town. He was right on! A "fellow-principal's" home had just gone up in smoke. The home was probably worth $500,000+ (my dream-home) with a dance studio attached! I was in shock - it was a well-constructed home totally out of brick - but it's totally gone including their cars - not a tooth brush was saved! The winds that day fanned the fire and the family lost everything! We heard the dad was still wearing a t-shirt and PJ bottoms since the fire. Whitney and I were very impressed as we watched dad clean out his closets (we knew he was saving all those clothes for some reason) and took a car full of clothes over to the dad. He will be well-dressed! I will be gathering home/kitchen items to help them back on their feet. My clothing size does not jive with the mom's!!!! haha! An account for the family has been setup at a local bank to help them recover from this ordeal. I relate to their ordeal as we went through the same process after surviving the Teton Dam Disaster back in 1976 - not a fun ordeal!
