tell me a story

Several times a month approximately 20+ college students are invited into our home for "Family Home Evening". They come from many walks of life - but usually between the ages of 19 & 25! They are away from their families and so far from home that members in the community open their homes to them so they can feel a touch of home! They are great youth - it amazes me every time they come. The youth are organized into 'families' and when we get together they prepare a FHE (Family Home Evening) lesson, song and even give the prayers to open and close our meeting! Two of the young men were in charge of the lesson and one of them gave an amazing story. I want to write it down (since this is my journal) so I can share it and not forget it - it left an impact on me.

So, with my fabulous brain (LOL), I will attempt to recreate the true story:

During the Vietnam war, a platoon of soldiers were marching through thick, overgrown countryside. The soldiers, at one point, became surrounded on all sides by the enemy - it was an ambush! One soldier could hear his platoon all around him being hit by fire - he knew that this ambush would soon be taken to the next platoon directly behind them - he had to get away to warn them. He ducked into a cave not far from where the ambush was taking place. He quickly knelt in prayer as he knew that his position would soon be detected and he too would be killed by the enemy. He dropped to his knees and pleaded to God that he be spared so he could warn the other platoons of the impending danger! The cave was totally exposed and open and upon arising from his knees he could hear the enemy close by! He thought, 'Well, I tried - God can't save everyone - they will find me and kill me!'

He notice directly above his head, in the opening of the cave, a very large spider. It began to spin a spider web - it worked quickly spinning back and forth, back and forth until it had a large web directly in the doorway of the cave. The young soldier thought this strange as he starred at the web! Then, footsteps! The young soldier knew the end had come for him and he would not be able to warn the other platoons! The footsteps stopped directly in front of the cave, then walked past. As the enemy saw the large spiderweb in front of the entrance of the cave, they knew no one had passed through that entrance for some time. The young soldier's life had been spared so that he might be able to warn and save the lives of many others. The young soldier observed that God works in mysterious ways and the power of prayer is powerful! I have to agree with all my heart!
