F.I.R.E. ! ! ! ! ! ! !

(click on individual photos for a much closer look! These photos had very little retouching - this is the way it felt.)

On our way home from visiting my mom in the hospital, we noticed a fire west of town with huge smoke clouds but as we got closer and closer to home the clouds got HUGE! It was a very weird feeling - something like when an eclipse occurs - weird! It got very, very dark as the clouds covered the sun completely and it was dark in the middle of the day! This is OUR town - it looks like it's on fire, but it isn't - it's very, very close! Today the wind blew an average of 45 mph and a fire started 30 miles away in the desert. It has so far consumed 30,000 acres! They have closed roads leading into our town from the west as that is where the fire is currently - threatening homes, farms and animals!

omg Berta - seems life has a lot of excitement for you at the moment.
Hope the fire will be extinguished soon. I am always afraid of these fires in summer - we've had one (only a small one) last year here in the forest where we live close.
And I will never forget that I thought about what to pack first....
THank god the firemen got control soon.
hugs

That is a twice in a lifetime experience to witness the day turning to night. That looks so much like the Yellowstone fire. Sooooo cool! Way to capture it!

We passed right by the fire going to Boise Tuesday. The whole way out to the desert it looked like we were going to drive right thru it then as we came upon it the road curved and we drove by. I took a couple of pictures as Shawn was driving by, but nothing like your pics. What an amazing sight it was though.
